Restore
Go to Hyper Backup, and click Restore on the bottom left corner to restore backup data/LUNs.
To restore data/LUN* backup:
- Click Restore on the bottom left corner, select Data or LUN*, and select a backup task to restore.
- You will be prompted to select system configuration, different versions of backup data, or more. It depends on which type of backup task you want to restore.
- If the backup task is encrypted, you need the password/encryption key for successful restoration.
- Follow the wizard to complete the restoration.
Note:
- When restoring an uninstalled package, the system will automatically install the same or latest version of the application. If the application is installed, but it is a version that is older than the backed up one, the system will automatically upgrade it to the original backed up version.
- Applications backed up in DSM 5.1 or above can not be restored in DSM 5.0 or below.
- If files are modified during data backup, such files will be skipped during restoration. To retrieve the files, go to Backup Explorer, select the desired files, and click Copy to... or Download.
Note:
- After the restoration is complete, both block-level and file-level LUNs will be restored into file-level LUNs.*
- When restoring a package, if the package is not installed, the system will automatically install the same or latest version of the application. If the application is installed, but it is a version that is older than the backed up one, the system will automatically upgrade it to the original backed up version.
- Applications backed up in DSM 5.1 or above can not be restored in DSM 5.0 or below.
- If files are modified during data backup, such files will be skipped during restoration. To retrieve the files, go to Backup Explorer, select the desired files, and click Copy to... or Download.
To restore a single file or folder for multi-version backup task:
- Select the desired backup task on the left panel, and launch the Backup Explorer (by clicking the magnifying glass icon). The password/encryption key is needed if the backup task is encrypted.
- Locate the desired backup version with the timeline bar or via the calendar icon.
- Select a contained file or folder, and click Restore, Copy to... or Download to retrieve the selected file/folder. The three options are also available if you right-click the file/folder.
To filter files/folders in a backup version:
To quicken file filter speed, you can use keywords to filter the files/folders on the current view. The unmatched files/folders will be hidden.
- Launch Backup Explorer, and click the funnel icon on the top right hand corner.
- In the drop down menu, you can filter files/folders by the criteria below:
- Keyword: Enter the name of any file or folder. You can use wildcards [*] (representing one or more characters) and [?] (representing one random character) in your keywords. For example, [a*n] can represent [action], [attention], or [an].
- File Type: Choose from Any, Any Folder,or Any File to refine your search.
- Size (KB): Choose Any, or select equals, is greater than, is less than and then enter a value.
- Modified Date: Choose from Today, Yesterday, Last week, or Last month or Customize to enter a start and end date to find versions within a specific range.
- To apply your filters, click Filter.
- To apply the same filters to another backup version, just switch to the desired version with the timeline bar.
- To reset your filtered search, click the Reset button.
Note:
- Backup Explorer is available only to multi-version backup tasks.
- Backup Explorer has limited functions when the backup destination is set in DSM 5.1 or below.
- System configuration and applications can only be restored via Restore.
- The filter function is available only to unencrypted backup tasks.
- Files/folders retrieved using Copy to... or Download will lose their original privilege settings.
- If files are modified during data backup, such files will be skipped during restoration. To retrieve the files, go to Backup Explorer, select the desired files, and click Copy to... or Download.
To restore backup tasks from other backup destinations:
- Click Restore on the bottom left corner and select Data or LUN*.
- You can select and restore either type of backup tasks:
- To restore data backup: Click Data > Restore from existing repositories, and select the desired backup destination to restore data.
- To restore LUN backup: Click LUN*.
- Follow the wizard's instructions. The password/encryption key is needed if the task to restore is encrypted.
- Click Apply to finish the restoration.
Note:
- Embedded DataStation can only restore shared folders to ext3/ext4 external devices.
- Embedded DataStation does not support application restoration without an ext3/ext4 external device.
